Hi! I'm Mackenzie - the pastry chef and owner of Beat Patisserie. I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my vision for Beat!
I grew up around my parent's catering and food shop and from a young age, I knew I wanted to follow in their foot steps. I started working in bakeries when I was 15 through my high school's co-op program. After high school, I enrolled in the Pastry Arts program at George Brown College, in Toronto, Ontario. In our first semester, we had to create a business plan for a project and the dream for Beat has been with me ever since! Seriously - I've been collecting the egg beaters and the pennies that decorate the store since I turned in that assignment!
In my time at George Brown, I had the opportunity to learn from many amazing chefs! I participated in a semester abroad at Domaine Les Crayeres, a Michelin Star restaurant in Reims, France, where I gained a love of French desserts. When I returned to Canada, I had many other learning opportunities that have shaped my baking ( a special shout out to La Rocca Creative Kitchen!) but I always dreamed of having my own place.
Fast forward to July 2020, and my school assignment became a reality. When you come in to Beat, I hope you'll see that I love what I do. I enjoy experimenting with new flavours and creating modern takes on old favourites. I also hope you'll feel the same welcoming vibe I grew up around at my parents' shop. I'm so grateful to them for being with me every step of the way.
If you've hung on this long - thanks for listening and looking forward to meeting you in the shop!
